Trelino® Maintenance InstructionsTrelino® composting toilets offer an eco-friendly and reliable waste management solution, wherever your journey takes you.
Like any toilet, routine maintenance is required to ensure long-lasting performance and efficiency.
A carbon-rich bulking agent should be added to the solids chamber to create a good composting environment. Trelino® composting toilets work best with a fine, slightly moist bulking agent. While several options are available, coco peat is the top choice for its fine consistency and excellent moisture retention.
Sprinkle a thin layer (approximately one scoop) of bulking agent after each solid deposit.
Spray Nature Flush Enzymes (a universal cleaner and compost treatment) on the urinal after each use to minimize formation of salts and ensure cleanliness.
Spray the system with Nature Flush Enzymes and wipe gently with a soft cloth or paper towel. Pay special attention to the urinal—apply Nature Flush Enzymes, then rinse with a small amount of water to help keep the urine chute fresh.
Tip: For a deeper clean, fill the liquids chamber with a solution of white vinegar and water, then rinse thoroughly.
Cleaning the solids chamber—regular cleaning of the solids chamber isn’t necessary, as it should remain clean if you are lining it with compostable bags. However, if you need to clean it—especially before long-term storage—spray with Nature Flush Enzymes, scrub, then rinse.
Routinely inspecting your Trelino® composting toilet helps catch small issues before they turn into bigger problems. Check all components carefully, including the housing, solids and liquids chambers, ventilation system (if installed), etc. Watch for signs of wear and tear, leaks, and unusual odours. If anything seems off, take action right away to keep your system running smoothly and efficiently.
If your Trelino® composting toilet is installed with a fan and external ventilation system, make sure it's operating properly and free from any blockages that could restrict airflow. Clean the fan and clear any debris from the vent stack at least once a year. If the fan has stopped working, replace it.
